Festival in the Library

Due to inclement weather this event has been relocated. Central Stage programming is moving to the Main Branch of the San Mateo Public Library, After all, the Library IS the quintessential refuge on a rainy day.

Parks and Rec will be facilitating games in the Children’s Department, and Steve the Magic Guy will be making balloon figures in the lobby from 1-3pm.

Program:

10am (Oak Room) Welcome |  SMPLF’s Sarah Meier-Heredia, Deputy City Librarian Rukshana Singh, and Library Board of Trustee President Austin Volz kick off the day and introduce our special four-legged guests from the popular Paws for Tales program.

10:15-10:30am (Oak Room) •  SM Reads | SMPL hosts over 20 story times a month where many kids fall in love with reading. Three special guests will read their children’s favorite books.

10:30-11am (Oak Room)SM Enchants | Library veteran guest performer Steve the Magic Guy will captivate all patrons, especially our youngest.

11am-11:45pm (Book Bubble) • SM Drums | Percussionist and art therapist Jeni Swerdlow brings DRUMMM, a hands-on drum circle back to the Oak Room. Everyone from babies to seniors – are invited to join the Library favorite.

12-1:30pm (Oak Room) SM Shakes |  Many of you will be familiar with the SF Shakespeare Festival which takes their one hour productions on tour through schools and, of course, libraries. Come and enjoy “As You Like It”  followed by Q&A with the cast.

2-2:15pm (Lobby) SM Seeks Awards | For those who participate in the Library scavenger hunt, this is the moment of the big reveal. From the pool of complete and accurate submissions, prizes will be awarded. Seekers do not need to be present to win, but we would love to congratulate you in person.

2:15-2:45pm (Friends of the Library Bookstore)SM Strums | Did you know the Library has ukuleles available to check out? Bring your own or use one provided (first come first served) and join a community ukulele jam led by Ukulenny — all levels welcome!

2:45-3pm (Oak Room)SM Declaims | April is the time to honor Libraries … and also poets! Two-time San Mateo County Poet Laureate Aileen Cassinetto honors National Poetry Month with us by reading some of her powerful work.

3-4pm (Oak Room)SM Remembers | We’re proud to present Bay Area jazz artist Tiffany Austin who has sung at the SMPL courtesy of the African American Cultural Committee. Tiffany will offer a Gershwin retrospective. KCSM’s Dr. Robert Franklin will be on hand to talk about the 100th anniversary of the American composer’s Rhapsody in Blue.
