San Mateo Delights celebrates the long-standing partnership between the San Mateo Public Library, its Foundation, and Music at Kohl Mansion. For nearly two decades, this collaboration has brought high-caliber live performance into a civic setting, inviting the community to experience music inside the public library.
This year’s program features Grupo Falso Baiano, a San Francisco–based quartet devoted to the lively Brazilian tradition of choro, one of the country’s earliest popular musical styles. Originating in the 1870s, choro blends virtuosic instrumental playing with rhythmic vitality and improvisation.
For more than twenty years, Grupo Falso Baiano has introduced audiences across California to this joyful repertoire, performing at venues including SFJAZZ, Yoshi’s, The Freight & Salvage, and the San Jose Jazz Festival. We look forward to welcoming them back to the Oak Room,
The ensemble features Ami Molinelli (percussion), Brian Moran (7-string guitar), Jesse Appelman (mandolin), and Zack Pitt-Smith (reeds).
